About Thymosin Alpha-1

Thymosin Alpha-1 is a 28-residue N-acetylated peptide originally isolated from thymosin fraction 5, a thymic tissue extract, and later fully characterised and synthesised.

The sequence is unusually acidic - it carries a high proportion of aspartate and glutamate residues, giving it a low isoelectric point and excellent aqueous solubility relative to peptides of similar length.

The N-terminal acetylation is present in the native molecule and is confirmed as part of the identity assay; deacetylated material is a recognised synthesis impurity and is resolved by the HPLC method used at release.

Handling & storage

Vials arrive lyophilized and sealed under nitrogen. Bring the vial fully to room temperature before breaking the seal — opening a cold vial condenses atmospheric moisture onto the cake.

Direct diluent gently against the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the cake, and allow the material to dissolve without agitation. Vortexing shears longer sequences and introduces air.

Lyophilized: -20 C, desiccated. Reconstituted: 2-8 C, use within 30 days.

A full walkthrough is in the reconstitution guide, and the calculator will work out concentration and draw volume for this vial size.

Laboratory handling

Standard laboratory practice applies: appropriate personal protective equipment, no consumption, no administration to humans or animals, and disposal in accordance with institutional protocol and local regulation.

Frequently asked

Why is it so readily soluble for a 28-residue peptide?

A high proportion of acidic residues gives it a low pI and strong aqueous solubility.

Is the N-terminal acetylation native?

Yes, and it is confirmed on every lot. Deacetylated material is a known impurity that the release HPLC method resolves.

What is thymosin fraction 5?

The thymic tissue extract from which this peptide was originally isolated before it was sequenced and synthesised.
