Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide built from the ACTH(4-7) fragment Met-Glu-His-Phe with a Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide appended at the C-terminus.
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide built from the ACTH(4-7) fragment Met-Glu-His-Phe with a Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide appended at the C-terminus.
The Pro-Gly-Pro extension is the stabilising element: the bare ACTH(4-7) fragment is degraded within minutes, whereas the extended sequence persists far longer. It was developed at the same Moscow institute as Selank and the two are frequently studied side by side.
The N-terminal methionine is oxidation-sensitive. Vials should be kept sealed and desiccated, and solutions prepared shortly before use.

Vials arrive lyophilized and sealed under nitrogen. Bring the vial fully to room temperature before breaking the seal — opening a cold vial condenses atmospheric moisture onto the cake.
Direct diluent gently against the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the cake, and allow the material to dissolve without agitation. Vortexing shears longer sequences and introduces air.
Lyophilized: -20 C, desiccated. Reconstituted: 2-8 C, use within 30 days.
A full walkthrough is in the reconstitution guide, and the calculator will work out concentration and draw volume for this vial size.
Standard laboratory practice applies: appropriate personal protective equipment, no consumption, no administration to humans or animals, and disposal in accordance with institutional protocol and local regulation.

Residues 4 through 7 of adrenocorticotropic hormone - Met-Glu-His-Phe - which forms the N-terminal half of Semax.
It dramatically slows degradation relative to the bare ACTH fragment.
The N-terminal methionine oxidises on exposure to air and moisture.
