About MOTS-c

MOTS-c is a 16-residue peptide encoded not in the nuclear genome but in mitochondrial DNA - specifically within the 12S rRNA region. It belongs to the small class of mitochondrial-derived peptides identified since 2015.

Its genomic origin is the reason it appears so frequently in mitochondrial biology work: it is one of the few characterised peptides whose coding sequence sits inside the mitochondrial genome itself.

The sequence carries two methionine residues and one tryptophan, making it both oxidation- and light-sensitive. Keep vials sealed, desiccated and in opaque packaging.

Direct diluent gently against the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the cake, and allow the material to dissolve without agitation. Vortexing shears longer sequences and introduces air.
