It was the first polypeptide hormone to be chemically synthesised, work that earned Vincent du Vigneaud the 1955 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and it remains a standard reference compound in peptide chemistry.
The disulfide bridge is the critical handling consideration. Reducing agents will open the ring and destroy activity, so any buffer containing DTT or beta-mercaptoethanol is incompatible. Its reconstituted shelf life is shorter than most of the catalogue.

Vials arrive lyophilized and sealed under nitrogen. Bring the vial fully to room temperature before breaking the seal — opening a cold vial condenses atmospheric moisture onto the cake.
Direct diluent gently against the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the cake, and allow the material to dissolve without agitation. Vortexing shears longer sequences and introduces air.
